2017 Toyota Yaris WRC the Points of Interest - Toyota president Akio Toyoda has today reported the organization will come back to the World Rally Championship cutting edge in 2017 with another auto in view of the Yaris. No word on Castrol stickers just yet.

The expansion of another works group is an appreciated jolt for the WRC, which is at present a Citroen versus VW issue with the juvenile Hyundai group assuming a supporting part.

Who's going to drive it?

It's too soon for Toyota to lift a driver line-up for 2017 yet the test pilots adding to the auto incorporate ex-F1, WRC and Le Mans star Stéphane Sarrazin and experienced hand Sebastian Lindholm. They're joined by 27-year old Frenchman Eric Camilli, the first individual from Toyota's new junior driver advancement plan.

Toyota last won the WRC constructors' title in 1999 and came surprisingly close to winning the driver's title in 1998 when Carlos Sainz's Corolla WRC ground to stop just about in sight of the completion line on the last phase of the year.

The Japanese company's keeping bounty occupied with motorsport exercises right now, with a continuous World Endurance and Le Mans system and a plant Lexus group in Japan's Super GT arrangement among different tasks.

We should trust a tad bit of that motorsport enchantment rubs off on some of Toyota's future street autos. Auris GT-Four anybody?

Change of the Yaris from humble shopping trolley to exceptional stage saint is being taken care of by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) in Cologne. Obviously, as with all WRC autos there'll be next to no genuine Yaris content in the last auto excepting certain components of the bodyshell and essential structural planning.
